MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A motorcyclist is dead after they crashed into a police car in Montgomery County. The crash and investigation caused a traffic nightmare for several hours Thursday evening.

The Intercounty Connector (ICC) in Maryland was closed in both directions while police investigated the serious crash. The roadway has since reopened.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. near Mile Marker 6.5 when a motorcyclist, believed to have been speeding, crashed into the back of a marked police cruiser.

Officials have confirmed the motorcyclist, identified as 31-year-old Carlos Ivan Diaz-Franco was killed in the crash. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
