WASHINGTON — Rain returns Sunday afternoon.

- Sunday will start dry but showers will arrive during the second half of the day with snow and ice NW of DC
- Tracking rain Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of next week
- Temperatures climb into the 50s and 60s for the first half of the week

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy and not as cold. Lows: 22 - 32. Winds: NE 5.
Sunday: Cold with PM rain developing, snow and ice NW. Highs: 39 - 44. Winds: ENE 5.
Monday: Partly sunny and milder with a few showers. Highs: 49 - 55. Winds: S 5.
Monday Night: Clouds linger with mild temperatures. Lows: 43 - 48. Winds: S 5 - 10.
Tuesday: Partly sunny and warm. Only a few stray showers. High: 57 - 62. Winds: WNW 5 - 10.

By Sunday, clouds will increase and showers will arrive during the afternoon.
For the immediate D.C. Metro area, expect showers after 12 p.m. The rain will be widespread by 3 p.m. With a cold air damming set up, there will be a period of some snow and ice along and west of the I-81 corridor, potentially even with some slushy accumulation.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Maryland, Extreme Western Allegany and Garrett Counties. In West Virginia, Western Grant, Western Mineral, and Western Pendleton Counties from Sunday morning through Monday morning. This is where up to 3" of snow and sleet is possible and up to 6" of snow, as well as around .25" of ice.
A Winter Weather Advisory has also been issued for areas along and west of I-81 from Sunday morning through Monday morning. Up to 2" of snow accumulation is possible as well as .10" of ice.

- Bundle up for weekend trips to the mall and pre-holiday festivities
- Have an umbrella handy by Sunday afternoon
- If you're traveling well north and west on Sunday, beware of slick road conditions
