Man killed, woman hurt after shooting at Washington National Cemetery

A man has died and a woman is injured following a shooting at Washington National Cemetery.

SUITLAND, Md. — Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a cemetery at the same time as a funeral for a 10-year-old D.C. murder victim in Suitland on Tuesday afternoon.

According to tweets from the Prince George's County Police Department, officers were called to the Washington National Cemetery in the 4100 block of Suitland Road shortly before 1:30 p.m.

In a press conference, David Blazer, Commander of the Major Crimes Division, said a man and a woman were hit in the shooting.

The man died following the shooting and the woman was taken to an area hospital for help.

While the shooting happened at the same time as the funeral for a 10-year-old girl who had been killed in D.C., Blazer said the victims were not directly related to the funeral.

"We believe that this was a dispute totally unrelated to what was going on with the funeral, the circumstances leading up to the funeral – the circumstances to the investigation in D.C.," Blazer said. "This was totally independent of that."

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding what happened.

A person is in custody but no identity or description is available.
