WALDORF, Md. — A Maryland man is facing charges after deputies say he threatened parishioners while slinging racist language at a church in Waldorf Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the 5100 block of Leonardtown Rd. just before 9:15 a.m. Sunday, April 16.
According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Kyle Michael Krawczyk has been charged with first-degree assault, racial–religious crimes against a group, reckless endangerment, and other related charges.
Investigators claim Krawczyk threatened parishioners while they were setting up for Sunday service while slinging racist epithets. The people in the church recognized Krawczyk and were able to convince him to leave the church while someone called 911.
When officers arrived, one of the parishioners pointed toward a wooded area. When Krawczyk noticed officers, he reportedly ran into the woods.
Krawczyk was taken into custody after a short chase. The sheriff's office claims he had an 18-inch machete strapped across his chest when he was arrested.
Krawczyk is currently being held without bond as officers continue to investigate.
