Police investigate killing and stabbing in Loudoun County; suspect taken into police custody

22-year-old Melvin Wasike has been arrested and charged in the incident. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Michael Fadely of Leesburg.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — A person has been taken into police custody in connection to the stabbing death of a person at 40844 Newton Place, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. 

22-year-old Melvin Wasike has been arrested and charged in the incident with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and breaking and entering while armed with intent to commit murder.

Wasike is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

The killing happened inside a home in the Barclay Woods community south of Leesburg, Va. The victim has been identified as Michael Fadely, 46, of Leesburg.

A second person was also stabbed inside the home. Their condition is stable, but their identity has not been released.

The sheriff's office cautioned residents to expect an increase in police activity while detectives investigate the death. 

On Nov. 8, the sheriff's office announced that Loudoun County has the lowest crime rate in Northern Virginia. In 2020, the county had a "serious crime" rate of 5.8 crimes per 1,000 residents. Serious crime is defined as homicide, aggravated assault, rape, robbery, burglary, auto theft and larceny.
