Man shot, killed in Southeast DC

Police are still working to learn what led up to the shooting.

WASHINGTON — A man is dead after a shooting in Southeast D.C. late Wednesday.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened in the 4800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. That's near Benning Terrace Recreation Center. Officers were called to the area shortly before 11 p.m. and upon arrival they found a man had been shot. The man, later identified as 35-year-old William Spriggs, died from his injuries, sparking a homicide investigation. 

While the investigation is ongoing, detectives have not released any information about the person responsible for the shooting.

They have also not said anything about a possible motive or what may have happened in the moments leading up to the shooting.
