WASHINGTON — If you were looking for a sign to get out of the house this week, here it is. 

Starting Thursday, a variety of cheap and free events are taking place across the District. 

So, let your hair down and let our list of events inspire you.

Every week, WUSA9 is giving you the details on at least nine cheap local activities to check out in your off time.

Thursday, April 27:

Comedy show at Town Tavern

Head to D.C.'s Adams Morgan neighborhood to laugh the night away at this free show from 8 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Town Tavern.

Comics from The Tonight Show, Conan, The Late Show, and those who have specials on Comedy Central, HBO, Netflix, Dry Bar, etc. have been known to perform at this venue. 

Donations are encouraged.

Friday, April 28:

Trans/Queer Empowerment Boxing

Every last Friday of the month from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m., community members can head over to the Healey Family Student Center for free boxing classes.

No experience is needed to participate. 

Attendees are asked to wear workout clothes and a comfortable pair of sneakers. 

Any donations made will go to support the athletes hosting the trans inclusive classes. 

Comedy night at Café Saint-Ex

Starting at 8 p.m., the free show takes place in the restaurant's newly renovated basement complete with a brand new stage, bar, lights, paint, etc.

Comics will do 8- to 10-minute sets from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Anyone 21 years of age or older is encouraged to attend.

Saturday, April 29:

6th DC Chocolate Festival

Are you loco for cocoa? If so, consider heading to La Maison Française at the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to learn all about chocolate making. 

The event will bring chocolate makers and lovers alike together for a day of tastings and educational workshops.

Tickets start at $24 per person for general admission and kids under 12 years old can attend the event for free.

Attendees are asked to bring ID and to sign up ahead of time online to reserve their designated time slot

The DC Chocolate Festival will be celebrating its 6th year. 

DC Potter Crawl

"We solemnly swear that we are up to no good!"

From 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, several bars in Dupont Circle will celebrate the wonderful world of magic and wizardry.

Tickets are $20 per person to attend the Harry Potter-themed event and includes a refillable Potter mug, party favors, cover fees for select Dupont bars, raffle and pictures.

Costumes are encouraged, with prizes to be given out to the best dressed wizards, elves, and magical creatures.

Attendees must be 21 years old and up to participate. 

Laughs and tracks: All femme/non-binary comics, DJs & drag!

From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., a lineup of female and non-binary comics will take the stage at Capitol Cider House on Georgia Avenue Northwest. 

Tickets are $10 per person to attend, with 100% of proceeds going to Sanctuary DMV and Rainbow Defense Coalition (a drag defense group) DMV.

Latinx Poetics

The National Museum of the American Latino is hosting an evening of poetry and jazz.

The free event will take place from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the S. Dillion Ripley Center on Jefferson Drive Southwest.

April is National Poetry Month.

Sunday, April 30:

Pilates in the Park

Join The Washington Ballet and company dancer Samara Rittinger for Pilates in the Park on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Attendees are asked to bring their own yoga mat or towel to participate in the free outdoor fitness class overlooking the Anacostia River.

Pink in the Park

Spring has sprung, and it's time to celebrate.

From 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, head over to National Landing to pump up the pink at Pink in the Park.

The event celebrating the arrival of spring includes a live music concert, a beer and wine garden, food trucks, giveaways, and more.

Tickets are free.

Poetry & Painting in DC at Hook Hall

From 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., hear poets perform at the venue located on Georgia Avenue.

Tickets start at $24 per person and includes admission as well as an opportunity to take photos with performers after the show. 

The painting portion of the event has already sold out and is unavailable.
