SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — Overnight Saturday, a fire alarm was set off in a Spotsylvania apartment complex just before calls came in of a shooting in the same place.

The Spotsylvania County 911 Center responded to calls from the 4900 block of Orchard Ridge Drive at the Orchard Ridge at Jackson Village apartment complex just after 4 a.m.

Once deputies arrived, they found a 25-year-old man, identified as Joshua Yezierski of Spotsylvania, who had been shot multiple times. After life-saving efforts, Yezierski was pronounced dead on the scene.

The shooter was quickly identified and stayed on the scene until police arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said via a Saturday press release.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office continue to investigate the series of events that led up to the shooting, including what caused the fire alarm activation. Police said that no charges have been placed yet and they confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing.
