Prince George's County hopes to reduce crime with security camera incentive program

To qualify for the rebate, the properties must be located within priority areas and camera systems must be registered with Prince George’s County Police.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Prince George's County has launched the Private Security Camera Incentive Program to help combat crime.

The Alsobrooks administration announced the launch of the program, which is meant to enhance community safety through increasing security cameras in priority areas including Langley Park, Glassmanor, and Walker Mill.

The program was spearheaded by County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the County Council, the Prince George’s County Police Department, and the Office of Community Relations. The program offers rebates for the installation of security camera systems on properties owned or leased by residents, nonprofit organizations and businesses.

"We are committed to reducing crime and promoting equity throughout Prince George’s County," Alsobrooks said. "This program builds on our track record of success in fighting crime and empowers residents and businesses to actively participate in enhancing community safety."

According to a news released about the program, studies have shown that additional security cameras can significantly deter criminal activity. Under Prince George's County program, eligible applicants can receive a $200 rebate for the installation of a security camera system, covering one camera for residents and two cameras for businesses. Additionally, $100 is available to offset subscription costs.

To qualify for the rebate, the properties must be located within priority areas and camera systems must be registered with the Prince George’s County Police Department. Applicants are required to provide proof of purchase and installation of the security camera system.

"Our application process is designed to be simple and efficient, ensuring that residents and businesses can easily participate in the program," stated Euniesha Davis, Director of the Office of Community Relations. "With an application review period of 45-90 days, we aim to expedite the process and provide timely assistance to our community."
