Man dead after being shot in the head in Northwest DC

The deadly shooting marks the 66th homicide this year across the District.

WASHINGTON — A late Wednesday night shooting in Northwest D.C. has left a man dead and sparked a homicide investigation for the police department.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to Rhode Island Avenue Northwest, nearby 8th Street Northwest, around 11:15 p.m. after a report of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

Police have not released any information about a suspect or motive in the homicide case at this time.

The deadly shooting marks the 66th homicide this year across the District. This is an increase of 27% compared to the previous year which saw a total of 52 homicide cases within the same time frame, according to MPD.
