Suspect in 2013 sexual assault arrested in El Salvador, extradited to Virginia

Police say David Ernesto Cuevas Maldonado is being held at Fairfax County Adult Detention Center with no bond.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A suspect in a 2013 sexual assault case has been arrested in El Salvador and extradited to Virginia to face justice, according to a press release from the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD).

FCPD said David Ernesto Cuevas Maldonado was arrested, charged with sexual assault, and released on bond before fleeing to El Salvador in 2014. 

The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) was integral in making the recent arrest in El Salvador, and Maldonado is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center with no bond, according to FCPD.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information on this case to call FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800 and select option 3. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.

FCPD also said victim specialists have been assigned to provide assistance and resources to the victim’s family.
