Monday was the hottest day of 2024

Record high temperatures fell Monday afternoon.

WASHINGTON — Record warmth spread over parts of the DMV Monday.  The standing record at Reagan National Airport is 91, set in both 1974 and 2017. The record at Dulles Airport is a little easier to reach at 89, also from 2017. The record at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is a long-standing record of 91 from back in 1974.

After making it to 84 degrees on Sunday at DCA, with 86 at both Dulles and BWI, the official forecast high is 89 for Monday, so this would put us on pace to at least threaten the records. Officially Dulles and BWI broke the old record high temps.

Observed Highs Monday

The 89 high Monday afternoon is the warmest day since since Sept. 11, 2023. Had National hit 90 it would be the first 90 reading since September 8, 2023, when Reagan National hit 93.

Although it's April and still early in the season, these hot temperatures will still warrant that you slow down, stay hydrated, spend extra time in the air-conditioning, and keep tabs on others who are vulnerable, including pets!
