TIMELINE: Winter whiplash Saturday with snow and wind

Winds will gust 40 - 50 mph Saturday with near blizzard conditions in the mountains.

WASHINGTON — Key Points:

*Snow and rain tapers off throughout the afternoon
*In D.C. and surrounding areas a coating to 2 inches of snow
*Northwest suburbs could see up to 2 to 4 inches of snow with higher totals along and west of I81  

Timeline

SNOW : Now - 4 p.m. Snow in most areas. Very windy with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

SNOW ENDING : 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. - Snow will start to move east and end after 2 p.m. Winds will continue to gust up to 50 miles per hour and stronger.

By the evening it is dry, cold, and windy! Temperatures will fall from the 40s in the morning to the 20s by the evening. Winds will be gusting 40 - 50 + mph by this point.

Snow is only part of the concern, wind will cause scattered power outages with gusts up to 50 mph. A Wind Advisory has been issued for most of the DMV through 1 A.M. Sunday.

Sunday will be brighter but still very chilly with temperatures in the 40s.
