Pedestrian hit, killed on I-270 Northbound in Gaithersburg

An investigation is underway into what led up to the deadly crash involving the pedestrian.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 270 in Gaithersburg Friday morning.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to the northbound lanes of I-270, between Exit 8 and 9, around 5:40 a.m. for a collision involving a pedestrian. According to Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for the department, one adult was in the roadway.

At the location medical officials attempted to treat the person for their injuries, but they were pronounced dead. No information has been released about the person, this includes their name, age, and where they are from.

An investigation is underway into what led up to the crash involving the pedestrian.

The deadly collision has also caused traffic delays in the area during the Friday morning commute. Piringer says that some local lanes on northbound I-270 between Shady Grove Road and I-370 have been blocked. Delays are expected to build.
