Marine vessels carrying large cranes to shut down Bay Bridge, Key Bridge

Traffic on the bridges will be halted for about 15 to 30 minutes, MDTA says.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Francis Scott Key Bridge will be shut down for a brief period in time Thursday morning and afternoon to allow large marine vessels to pass through, MDTA said.

Traffic on the Bay Bridge will be halted for about 15 to 30 minutes at 10 a.m. Thursday. And traffic on the Key Bridge will also be stopped for the same amount of time around noon, officials said.

The amount of time it will take for the vessels to pass the bridge is technically unknown. The times above are an approximation.

The traffic hold-up is to ensure drivers are not distracted driving across the bridges while the large vessels carrying four large cranes move beneath the bridges.
