Bicyclist seriously injured in Germantown after being struck by tractor-trailer

Anyone with information should call 240-773-6620.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A bicyclist was seriously injured Friday after he was struck in Germantown by a tractor-trailer, Montgomery County Police Department said.

MCPD said officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to the intersection of Frederick Road and Stringtown Road around 4:30 p.m. to investigate a reported collision with a truck and bicyclist.

Investigators say a man was riding a blue Haro bicycle northbound on Frederick Road. According to police, a truck driver — operating a 2009 purple Peterbilt tractor-trailer — was traveling near the bicyclist. As the truck was passing the bicycle on Stringtown Road, the bike rider hit "the rear portion of the trailer," police say.

The bicyclist fell and was struck by the trailer, investigators say. During the investigation, MCPD says the truck driver remained on scene and was not injured.

The man riding the bike was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

MCPD's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this and is asking anyone with information to call detectives at 240-773-6620.
