Inmate dies in jail cell in Virginia, officials investigate

During the investigation, staff found 18-year-old Juan Felipe Mejia Campos unresponsive in his cell.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Virginia officials are investigating a death at a regional adult detention center.

On Thursday, just before 9:15 a.m., officers responded to the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center to investigate the death of an inmate. The detention center is located at 9320 Lee Avenue in Manassas.

During the investigation, staff found 18-year-old Juan Felipe Mejia Campos unresponsive in his cell. Aid was provided but unfortunately, it was too late and Campos was pronounced dead.

Officials say there were no signs of foul play and the death appears to be medical or narcotics-related. Campos’ death remains an active investigation.
