Child hit by car in Prince George's County, police say

A 12-year-old girl has serious injuries and is expected to survive.

PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — Two children were taken to a nearby hospital after one was hit by a car in Prince George's County Friday. 

Police say a 12-year-old girl was hit by the car in the 3000 block of Brinkley Road in Temple Hills just after 4:15 p.m. Her five-year-old brother was with her and did not appear to be hit by the car.

According to officers, both children were running into the street when the collision happened. Police say the kids were not using a crosswalk.

Both children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The 12-year-old girl has serious injuries but is expected to survive and the 5-year-old was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Officers say the driver did have a green light and was proceeding through the intersection when the vehicle struck the teen.
