Snow plow driver shot, killed while clearing school parking lot in Maryland

Alex Ramirez Garcia, 37, was clearing the parking lot of a Montessori school when he was shot.

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — Police in Howard County are searching for answers after a snow plow driver was shot and killed on Wednesday. Investigators are offering a $5,000 reward for information.

According to detectives, Alex Ramirez Garcia, 37, of Gwynn Oak, was working as a private snow plow driver clearing the parking lot of a Montessori school in the 4400 block of Montgomery Road in Ellicott City when he was shot. He was found by a passerby outside his truck in the parking lot around 8:45 a.m.  Police say Garcia was taken to the hospital and later died. 

Police learned that Garcia was scheduled to clear the parking lot early in the morning and may have been shot hours before he was found.

Police have not made any arrests and a motive has not been determined. They do not believe the shooting was random.
