DC, Maryland, Virginia attorneys general among federal antitrust lawsuit supporters

The federal suit alleges the company, which owns Ticketmaster, has an illegal monopoly on the live entertainment industry.

WASHINGTON — Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown joined a federal lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. which alleges the company, which owns Ticketmaster, has an illegal monopoly on the live entertainment industry, according to a Thursday press release.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the group of attorneys general, including those from D.C. and Virginia, who have backed the lawsuit claim Live Nation has illegally dominated ticket sales, venues, promotion and artist management.

“When the world’s largest live entertainment company illegally dominates ticket sales, artist management and promotion, and venue choices, fans are the ones who are hurt the most,” said Attorney General Brown. “This unlawful conduct drives up prices, leaves fans with poor customer service, and limits opportunities for people’s access to live entertainment.”

The lawsuit is also seeking redress for Marylanders harmed by the company’s anticompetitive scheme, according to the OAG.

Many performance spaces in the area are exclusive partners with Live Nation, including the Fillmore in Silver Spring, The Warner Theater in Washington and Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia.
