Metro to stay open later after Caps Game 5

Metro officials said Thursday that if the team wins, they'll make a judgment call on whether to stay open later for the party that will inevitably take over DC's streets.

WASHINGTON -- Metro will yet again stay open an hour late to accommodate Caps fans, thanks to a sponsor, but may even stay open later IF the team wins their first ever Stanley Cup.

Monumental Sports and Entertainment announced Wednesday that they will cover the $100,000 needed to keep the system open an hour later from its regular weekday hours, the first time such an extension has been made for an away game.

Metro officials said Thursday that if the team wins, they'll make a judgment call on whether to stay open later for the party that will inevitably take over DC's streets.

Large crowds are expected at the Capital One Arena watch party, which sold out within minutes to the frustration of fans, as well as at watch parties throughout the city.

As a result, the city has also made the DC Circulator free for Thursday evening. This will help avoid road closures, which are already in place around Capital One Arena.

Thursday’s last trains from Gallery Place-Chinatown are now scheduled to depart at:

Red Line to Glenmont 12:38 a.m.; Shady Grove 12:32 a.m.
Green Line to Branch Ave 12:28 a.m.; Greenbelt 12:48 a.m.
Yellow Line to Huntington 12:19 a.m.

The last trains from Metro Center will depart at:

Orange Line to New Carrollton 12:16 a.m.; Vienna 12:40 a.m.
Blue Line to Franconia-Springfield 12:28 a.m.; Largo Town Center 12:27 a.m.
Silver Line to Wiehle-Reston East 12:21 a.m.

In the event of overtime, Metro will provide any updates regarding last train times through arena announcements, on Twitter (@wmata and @metrorailinfo) and via MetroAlerts email and text messages. In the event of a Stanley Cup win, Metro will make a judgment call on staying open even later, but it will be no more than one hour (Approximately 12:30am).
