Homicide investigation underway after shooting leaves man dead in Northeast DC

This shooting happened just a mile from where three people were shot Thursday night in Prince George's County.

WASHINGTON — A man was shot and killed in Northeast D.C. early Friday, sparking a homicide investigation into what happened.

Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded at 2 a.m. to Dix Street Northeast, off of 59th Street Northeast, just a short distance away from the D.C.-Maryland state line after a report of a shooting in the area. Upon arrival, they found a man who had been shot and unconscious.

Police say the man died at the location due to his injuries. He has since been identified as 22-year-old Matthew Ginyard, of Temple Hills, Maryland.

This deadly shooting happened just around a mile from where three people were shot Thursday night at a gas station on Sheriff Road in Fairmount Heights.

No one has been arrested for either crime at this time. Both police departments, MPD and Prince George's County Police Department, are working to develop people of interest in their respective investigations.
