Child shot in Southeast D.C., police search for shooter

The child was with his mom when two individuals opened fire and began shooting at each other. Consequently, the child was hit in the leg by a stray bullet.

WASHINGTON — D.C. police are investigating a shooting in Southeast.

Police received a call Saturday evening at 8:20 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When they arrived at the 3400 block of 13th Place, they located a 10-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds.

The child was with his mom when two individuals opened fire and began shooting at each other. Consequently, the child was hit in the leg by a stray bullet. Officers do not believe the little boy was the intended target.

The victim was taken to the hospital conscious and breathing. His mother was not injured in the shooting. 

At this time, police have not issued a lookout for any possible suspects. They are currently collecting evidence and pulling surveillance footage to try and locate the shooters involved in this crime. 

They are asking the public not to take action but, to call 202-727-9099 if they have any information regarding this shooting. 

This is an ongoing investigation. WUSA 9 will update you as more information is released.
