WASHINGTON — On Thursday, Archbishop Carroll Highschool teamed up with Competitive Edge EQ to host a town hall on the importance of prioritizing the wellbeing of student athletes.

The townhall was called; “Every Play Counts, Every Emotion Matters.”

October is Emotional Intelligence Awareness Month, and the purpose of the town hall was to strengthen the emotional disposition of student athletes.

WUSA9’s Simone De Alba moderated as a host of panelists discussed issues like emotional and mental wellbeing, transitioning from the playing field to a career, and tools for playing at the next level.

Panelists included; Carolyn Moos, Lisa Leonard, Jerome Williams, Josh Morgan, Lou Holder, Roger Clark, Kenny Lucas, Chanell Gaines, and Lisa Daniels.

Each panelist shared valuable advice from their own personal journeys. It was also an opportunity for students to interact with athletes who have strong ties to the DMV and have made a name for themselves on a national scale.

Archbishop Carroll will be the first EQ school in the DMV.

Lisa Leonard, the Executive Director for Competitive Edge EQ says “We are incredibly excited about our partnership with Archbishop Carroll. This collaboration serves as a dynamic opportunity to ignite essential conversations about the impact of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) in equipping out student-athletes with the capacity, skills, and tools required to successfully navigate the unique experiences of student-athletes in the academic and athletic space.”
