100 firefighters battle 2-alarm blaze in Northwest DC

About 100 firefighters responded to the scene to bring the fire under control Tuesday morning.

WASHINGTON — D.C. firefighters fought a large fire in an apparently vacant home in Northwest D.C. Tuesday morning. Crews responded to a fire in the 5400 block of Colorado Avenue Northwest to find flames shooting from the windows of the home just before 8 a.m.

Firefighters upgraded the response to a second alarm due to heavy fire conditions. About 100 firefighters responded to the home to bring the fire under control. The flames forced firefighters to evacuate the home and attack the blaze from the outside, using ladders and hoses.

No one was inside the home at the time the fire broke out and D.C. fire and EMS said in a tweet that the home appeared to be vacant. All firefighters have been accounted for, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators from the Washington bureau of the ATF are on scene to assist firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
