DC HS Hockey Team remembers fallen teammate

A prominent DC high school came together Thursday night to remember one of its students lost too soon.

Gonzaga College High School student, 17-year-old Dominik Pettey, died in 2014 after a tragic accident on the Beltway. Since that incident, his school has held a scrimmage game in his honor.

Funds raised from the game go toward a scholarship to help underprivileged youth attend Gonzaga College High School.

Pettey's parents attended the scrimmage game at the Fort Dupont Ice Rink in Southeast DC. They said they were happy to see so many people continue to support their family.

"We love these boys," said Magdalena Pettey. "They're like my sons, each one of them."

According to Dominik Pettey's high school coach, Bill Slater, the scholarship endowment has already raised more than $200,000.

"Dominik had a big impact on a lot of people's lives," he said.
