Victims in double shooting arrested in Northwest DC

While investigating, police say they found a gun on the teenage girl and learned that the moped the pair were riding when they were shot was reported stolen.

WASHINGTON — Police say two people who were shot in Northwest D.C. Monday night are now facing charges while detectives search for a car connected to the person who shot them.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened in the 1300 block of Rittenhouse Street, Northwest.

Investigators say just before 8 p.m. the wanted gunman was traveling in a gray Toyota Camry in the 6200 block of 13th Street, Northwest. The gunman then opened fire on a man and a passenger on a moped. Both the driver and passenger were hit by bullets, causing the moped to crash.

Upon arrival, officers found the victims, identified as  18-year-old David Lemus and an unnamed 17-year-old girl. Both were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive.

Police have yet to find the gunman but released video of the suspect's vehicle. The 4-door 2016 Toyota Camry has a Maryland license plate that reads “7DD0282.” The vehicle’s rear bumper is damaged and hanging off on the right side.

While investigating, police say they found a gun on the teenage girl and learned that the moped the pair were riding on was reported stolen. Both of the victims were placed under arrest after receiving treatment.

Lemus has been charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, while the teenage passenger was charged with carrying a pistol without a license and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding the gunman is asked to call detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.
