Police: Robber sprays fire extinguisher at cashier before stealing cash register

WASHINGTON — Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a robber who used a fire extinguisher to steal a cash register early Monday morning. 

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the robbery happened at a convenience store in the 300 block of Hawaii Avenue, Northeast. 

Investigators say around 6:30 a.m., a man walked into the store and grabbed a few items before walking to the register. He then reportedly grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed the clerk before stealing the cash register and other items. 

Police released images of the suspect, captured by a nearby camera on X Monday evening. 

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
