Rival crews in Northeast DC targeted in recent drug busts, says US Attorney for DC Matthew Graves

Crews in the Carver-Langston and Trinidad neighborhoods are still being investigated.

WASHINGTON — As a result of months of investigation into two rival gangs accused of dealing drugs, United State's Attorney for the District of Columbia Matthew Graves says a total of 24 people have been arrested.

Crews in the Carver-Langston and Trinidad neighborhoods of Northeast, D.C. were investigated.

Graves held a press conference Thursday to provide more details into the large-scale drug busts.

Graves said on May 15, a total of 15 people were arrested for allegedly participating in a drug trafficking conspiracy based near the intersection of 21st and Maryland Avenue in Northeast in the Carver-Langston neighborhood. Ten people were arrested pursuant to a federal indictment for their alleged involvement in dealing Fentanyl and crack cocaine. It is alleged the group distributed hundreds of grams of illegal narcotics. Investigators found 20 guns, magazines, ammunition, $23,000 in cash, and significant quantities of drugs including heroin, Fentanyl, marijuana and liquid PCP during searches.

On Thursday, Graves says nine people were arrested for allegedly participating in a drug trafficking conspiracy in the area of Round Street, NE in the Trinidad neighborhood. Five have been charged by federal indictment and three allegedly participated in a conspiracy to distribute Fentanyl, crack, and heroin. He says the group distributed hundreds of grams of illegal narcotics. So far, the evidence recovered in this investigation includes 15 guns, $126,000 in cash, ammunition, and illegal drugs.

Crews from both of these neighborhoods, which are separated by less than a mile, have historically fought with one another, Graves said, adding that investigations are ongoing, and include looking into other crews across the District.

"You should assume your crew is under investigation if you are engaged in similar crimes in the district," says Graves.

Graves, along with others, continued to reiterate that the violence is being driven by a small group of people who are making certain areas dangerous.
