2 Maryland men indicted in theft of more than 50 firearms in Virginia

The two men allegedly stole more than 50 firearms from a gun store in Springfield in April of 2023, according to the indictment.

SPRINGFIELD, Va. — Two Maryland men were indicted on Thursday and are facing several charges after robbing a gun store in April, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Cedric Minger, 21, and Victor Jones, 22, stole more than 50 firearms from Dominion Defense, a gun store in Springfield, Virginia, according to the indictment. They stole pistols, rifles, short-barreled rifles, and silencers on April 29, 2023.

Minger, Jones and two others travelled from D.C. to Dominion Defense in a stolen car, according to the indictment. They broke the exterior glass door, but then struggled to break through the interior door. Minger shot at the door using a firearm, and eventually he "shimmied" through an opening at the top of the interior door, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Once inside, Minger grabbed more than 50 firearms, passing them to Jones and the other co-conspirators. The group then loaded the stolen firearms into the stolen car and fled back to D.C.

Minger and Jones attempted to rob another gun store in Rockville, Maryland, on April 30, 2023. Minger and at least two co-conspirators also attempted to burglarize a gun store in Fallston, Maryland, on May 10, 2023.

Jones was arrested in June, and Minger was arrested in May.

The pair are charged with the burglary of a federal firearms licensee, conspiracy to steal firearms from licensees and interstate transportation of stolen firearms and stolen vehicles.

Minger and Jones are facing a maximum of five years in prison for the conspiracy to steal firearms and up to 10 years in prison for each additional count in the indictment.
