Virginia man arrested for string of robberies

Detectives have arrested a man they believe was behind multiple robberies in Manassas and Woodbridge throughout the month of March.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Police have arrested a man they say is behind a string of robberies in Virginia.

Bobby Winstead III, 34, of Lorton, is charged with one count of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, and two counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for his alleged involvement. 

Winstead is believed to be behind multiple robberies in Manassas and Woodbridge that occurred from March 4-16. An investigation connected him to robberies reported at a United Bank on Smoketown Road and a CVS on Tacketts Mill Drive in Woodbridge, and a Walgreens on Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas. 

On April 26, Winstead was located and taken into custody. Additional charges are pending.

Here are the robberies he faces charges for as reported by police:

  • On March 4, at 12:32 p.m., officers responded to a United Bank located on Smoketown Road in Woodbridge to investigate a robbery. An investigation revealed that an unknown man approached the counter and demanded money. He had one of his hands in a bag, where police believed he was holding a gun. He then ran from the scene without taking any money. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. A police K9 and officers searched the area following the attempted robbery but came up empty.
  • On March 16, at 10:51 p.m., officers responded to a CVS on Tacketts Mill Drive in Woodbridge to investigate a robbery. The investigation revealed an unknown man walked up to the service counter and pulled out a gun before demanding money. He took an undisclosed amount of cash and ran from the store. No injuries were reported. Once again, a police K9 searched the area but did not find the suspect.
  • On March 22, at 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a Walgreens on Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas to investigate a robbery. An investigation revealed an employee was approached by an unknown man who took out a gun and escorted the employee to a back office. The suspect then took an undisclosed amount of cash before taking off with another man who appeared to be sidt5racfting another employee at the front counter. No injuries were reported. A police K9 searched for suspects but found nothing.
