Police arrest man connected to Dupont Circle nightclub shooting

Witnesses were able to direct officers to the suspect.

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested the man accused of shooting six people in Dupont Circle late Friday night. Rennwel Mantock, 29, was arrested thanks to help from witnesses.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to Connecticut Avenue, Northwest to investigate a shooting. The scene was secured before midnight, officers stated in a social post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Through an initial investigation, police determined that Mantock opened fire after employees removed him from Decades nightclub following a dispute that started inside of the business.

Six adults were shot, four men and two women. Three men and both women were transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A sixth person was treated on scene for a minor graze wound and refused to be transported to a hospital.

US Secret Service was in the area at the time of the shooting and helped police secure the scene as well as make the arrest.

Alex Colorado, who was in the area at the time of the investigation, took footage from the scene, granting WUSA9 permission to use it. He says he was leaving Mad Hatter at the time and saw the shooting scene as he walked outside. In the videos, crime scene tape and a heavy police presence can be seen outside of Decades nightclub.

Mantock is being charged with Assault with Intent to Kill, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department tip line at 50411.
