Hundreds of motorcyclists travel across the country to DC in honor of veterans

Video shared with WUSA9 shows a group of 400 motorcyclists arriving in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON — Hundreds of motorcyclists are making the journey from the West Coast all the way to the East Coast in honor of veterans this Memorial Day weekend.

Run for the Wall is an annual motorcycle ride from California to Washington, D.C. They ride — or "run" as many motorcyclists call it — for those who can't, in an effort to raise awareness for those still missing including Prisoners of War and soldiers who are Missing in Action.

The ride starts in Ontario, California and 10 days later ends at the Vietnam Memorial Wall in the nation's capital. The group then has a three-day run from D.C. to the Middle East Conflicts Wall in Marseilles, Ill.

Over 400 people have registered for this year's ride, and video shared with WUSA9 shows the group arriving in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Tuesday.

Registration is required for the charity event, and you don't need to be a veteran to ride. Most meals are provided by donors and supporters, and fuel is donated at many stops. Participants vary in age.

Community members are invited to join the riders at one of their overnight stops, along one of their four routes, and cheer them on.

Anyone who would like to donate to their cause, can do so here.
