College fair to be held Saturday in Southwest DC | Get Uplifted

Brian Howard is giving back to the same neighborhood in Southwest D.C. that raised him.

WASHINGTON — It is an exciting time of year for a lot of families and their graduating high school students, who might be anxious to take the next steps in their education.

We are celebrating a local business man, husband, and dad who is making sure that no young person who wants to learn more about higher education is left out regardless of their zip code in the DMV. Brian Howard is giving back to the same neighborhood in Southwest D.C. that raised him by helping to organize a college fair Saturday at the Bald Eagle Recreational Center in Ward 8.

The last HBCU College Fair held was a big success. Howard says he does this bi-annual college fair to make sure that students east of the river are exposed to the world of historically Black colleges and universities and the many benefits of attending one.

"It's so important because myself, along with the rec manager Mark Williams, both grew up in that neighborhood and we just wanted to give something positive back to the community and expose them to the world of HBCUs," he said.

Forty HBCUs will be at the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is made possible with the help of the DC Department of Parks and Rec and the DC Chapter of the Alabama State University Alumni. It is free and open to all in the DMV.
