This barber is offering more than haircuts to students | Get Uplifted

For going above and beyond to support the community and it's most valuable assets -- the children, Preston is truly uplifting the area.

WASHINGTON — A man is using his barber skills to help to uplift young people in the Trinidad community of Northeast D.C.

James Preston and his associates volunteer their services at the Wheatley Education Campus every Monday and Tuesday for a program and the school called Locs and Cutz Self Employed Boutique.

Wheatley had space for a barber shop and salon and created the program to provide free hair care maintenance to students who may not have access to these types of costly services, but it is much more than a haircut. School leaders say it supports the well-being, self-esteem and confidence in the young scholars.

Preston has also enriched the scholars at Wheatley by having DMV artists volunteer their time to come in and paint. He funded a game truck for their fall festival and even spoke at the 8th grade graduation and gave all the honor roll students a monetary donation.

For going above and beyond to support the community and it's most valuable assets -- the children, Preston is truly uplifting the area.
