Tips: How to capture the cherry blossoms from a professional photographer

Professional photographer, Chris Fukuda, shares how you can take great photos of the blossoms

WASHINGTON — It’s no secret that everyone wants to get that perfect cherry blossom picture. But things like large crowds and the bright sun can make capturing your memories a bit harder.

One of our top WUSA9 Weather Watchers, Chris Fukuda, has three tips for snapping spectacular shots of the cherry blossoms.

  1. The best time to take photos is in the morning before too much dust gets in the air and crowds become unmanageable.
  2. For the best color and detail, try to use low-angled shots and golden lighting. A lower angle uses the sky as a neutral backdrop, which will enhance the details of the blossoms in your pictures. Golden lighting is best for bringing out the color of the perfect pink petals.
  3. Finally, if you are using your cell phone, Fukuda recommends using the panoramic setting to capture all your surroundings in one photo.

Now you know exactly how to get that profile-worthy snap at the Tidal Basin! For everything else you need to know about visiting the cherry blossoms, check out WUSA9's blossoms guide here.
