LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — A tractor-trailer hauling boxes of frozen food caught fire on Route 15 in Loudoun County Wednesday morning, according to Kraig Troxell, Loudoun County Sherrif's Office (LCSO) Public Information Officer.
The incident happed just after 5 a.m. on southbound Route 15 and 705 in the Aldie area of Loudoun County.
WUSA9's SKY9 was over the scene and it appeared that the truck fire was knocked out. But boxes of frozen chicken nuggets, sausage and breadsticks were dumped on the side of the truck on the roadway, LCSO officials said. This is causing major delays in the area.
Traffic was temporarily stopped a few times which caused delays in both directions on the highway. As of 9:30 a.m., Rt 15 at Old Carolina Road is now open in both directions.
It is unknown what caused the truck hauling frozen foods to catch fire.
The driver of the truck was able to escape the flames without injury, officials said.
Crews are at the scene working to clear the roadway and have shut down several lanes.
This story is developing. WUSA9 will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
