WASHINGTON — This Halloween, District residents are in for a bloody good time as the city celebrates the holiday with a variety of free and spooky events.

Thursday, Oct. 26:

Pick Your Poison—Mystery Night at the Library of Congress

  • Authors will meet to discuss their mystery novels at this free event from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. 
  • Cap off the night with Erick Acuña Productions’ “Who Did It?: An Improvised Murder Mystery” in the Coolidge Auditorium. 
  • The event requires free timed-entry passes.

Terror in the Gallery: Spooky Portraits in History and Fiction, 1776 D Street, NW

  • Explore the DAR Museum after hours and learn all about the spooky paintings that have sent chills down spines for generations. 
  • Tickets are $25 per person to attend this event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Howl-O-Ween at the Fairmont Hotel, 2401 M Street, NW

  • It's Fairmont's 12th annual Howl-O-Ween starting at 6 p.m.
  • Attendees are encouraged to bring their furry companions to compete in an annual pet costume contest.
  • Prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m., and local celebrity judges will award prizes for most creative, most adorable, funniest and honorable mentions.
  • All dogs will be treated to peanut butter doggie biscuits created by Fairmont’s pastry team, and canine coolers will be placed throughout the courtyard.

Rooftop Live Band Karaoke & Costume Party, 1214 18th Street, NW

  • Public Bar Live is holding a haunted karaoke night from 8 p.m. until midnight.
  • There will be prizes for the best performer as well as best costume.

Friday, Oct. 27:

Rocky Horror Picture Show, Metrobar

  • Let's do the Time Warp again! Show up in costume for a screening of the classic film at the bar in Northeast D.C. from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Witches Halloween Party, The Dew Drop Inn

  • Head to the Inn in Northeast D.C. for a Halloween party starting at 7 p.m.
  • Attendees can expect witchy drinks, astrology & tarot readings, raffle prizes, and more.
  • This event is free to attend and no RSVP is required.

Saturday, Oct. 28:

DC Witchfest, Metrobar 

  • Don't forget your broomsticks! This Halloween day party kicks off at 11 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m.
  • Anyone attending is encouraged to wear a costume.
  • The free event will feature live music, a variety of activities, costume contests, trick or treating, and more.

Sunday, Oct. 29:

October Clothing Swap, Meridian Hill Park

  • Bring your gently-worn clothes, accessories, shoes, or costumes, that no longer fit your style, to Meridian Hill Park for a clothing swap.
  • The event is free and will take place from noon until 2 p.m.
  • All clothing items leftover will be donated.

A Circus Murder Mystery, Crazy Aunt Helen's

  • Starting with the murder of their beloved director, 7 performers turn against each other as they try to discover the killer. Follow along in this interactive show and vote for your guess before the night is over 
  • Doors to the show open at 5 p.m., with showtime at 6 p.m.
  • Tickets are $20 per person.
