Traffic alert: Parking restrictions, road closures for White House Easter Egg Roll

Hundreds of families will descend upon the White House South Lawn for storytime, games and the traditional "Easter Egg Roll" that has been happening since the 1870s.

WASHINGTON — Easter is just around the corner and it is about time to get egg-cited over an annual White House tradition. On Monday, hundreds of families will descend upon the White House South Lawn for storytime, games and the traditional "Easter Egg Roll," which has been happening since the 1870s. 

 In 1878, President Rutherford B. Hayes decreed that any child who came to the White House to roll Easter eggs would be allowed to do so, after Congress outlawed such activities on Capitol grounds in 1876. 

DC Police have issued several road closures and parking restrictions for much of the day Monday to accomodate the event. 

No parking April 1 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.: 

  • 15th Street from Constitution Avenue to Upper Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

No traffic April 1 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • 15th Street from Constitution Avenue to Upper Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Local traffic only on April 1 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.:

  • 15th Street from H Street to Upper Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
  • New York Avenue from 14th Street to 15th Street, NW
  • G Street from 14th Street to 15th Street, NW
  • F Street from 14th Street to 15th Street, NW
