Commanders announce 'significant upgrades' to FedEx Field

Here's what's changing at the home of the Commanders.

GREATER LANDOVER, Md. — While the Washington Commanders' remaining time at FedEx Field may be short, new ownership led by Josh Harris is spending millions of dollars on upgrades to the team's home turf.

Since Harris and his group purchased the team in July, he has been outspoken about improving the experience for fans and players alike. Tuesday's announcement brings the total number of targeted investments for FedEx Field to $75 million. Here's where that money is going.

Infrastructure Improvements

The team says the upgrades will be noticeable from the moment fans enter the parking lots and include faster entry into the stadium, new premium seating options and suite experiences, improved food and beverage options, and sound system upgrades. Additionally, the stadium will be getting what a spokesperson calls a "structural refresh," improving elevators, water and mechanical systems and other infrastructure upgrades.

New and Upgraded Fan Spaces

There are some new spaces in the works for fans as well. Commanders fans can cheer players from just feet away via a new VIP field tunnel, and if luxury is your thing, there's an entirely new premium suite space called the 1932 Club. Upgrades are also planned for the USO Lounge, as well as new furniture in premium areas, and new terrace tables, the team says.

Food, Drink and Parking

The team also promises improved food and drink options throughout the stadium, including drink lanes that allow fans to get back to their seats quickly. With a parking system the team describes as simpler and more efficient, and frictionless security entry points, fans should be able to get into the stadium quicker.

Team President Jason Wright said the stadium improvements are just part of the growing anticipation around the team that has made a lot of big changes in the offseason.

“With the addition of General Manager Adam Peters, Head Coach Dan Quinn, and the incredible football staff they’ve assembled, it’s already been an exciting offseason for Commanders fans, and we’re eager to build upon that momentum by strengthening our team through the Draft and Free Agency. Today’s announcement is also another tremendous step forward for our fans and players. Our ownership team continues to make significant investments to improve the overall stadium experience for Commanders games and an impressive slate of concerts and other great live events coming to the DMV in the future,” Wright said in a statement.

On March 9 and 10, fans who have a deposit for season tickets will be able to choose from the best available seats at the annual “Select Your Seat” event at the stadium. To place your 2024 deposit and participate in our Select a Seat Event, please click here.

The announcement of these upgrades comes even as ownership works on finding a new home for the team.

RELATED: Three locations picked for new Commanders stadium, Josh Harris says

In an exclusive interview with WUSA9 Sports Director Chick Hernandez, Harris confirmed he and his team are actively moving forward with plans for a new Commanders stadium and revealed he his advisors have identified three sites.

“We’re studying where would our new home be,” Harris said. “We continue to look at sites in three jurisdictions. We’ll have a lot more to say about that in the coming months. It’s very complicated in the sense that each site has its own nuances in terms of the politics, the site itself, is it good for football, what do you do to the area, how do you do it, and so all that stuff is ongoing so we’re working hard.”

Sources confirm to WUSA9 the three proposed sites are in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Harris' team would not disclose the specific location of those three sites, but sources told WUSA9 the fan favorite in D.C. — the old RFK Stadium — is the location they are considering in the District.
