WASHINGTON — We are just days away from the 2024 NFL Draft and the Washington Commanders have the number 2 pick overall. However, before we can look ahead, let us reflect on previous Draft selections from 2023.
The Washington Commanders had the 16th pick during the first round of the draft, ultimately selecting Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes from Mississippi State. The then-166-pound cornerback had the fourth fastest 40 times (4.35), a 37.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-11 broad jump, despite not having the same weight advantage as other cornerbacks.
While announcing the selection, the Washington Commanders called Forbes, "one of the most talented defensive backs on the board."
However, when compared to the other cornerbacks, the website Pro Football Focus ranks Forbes as 97th in the league with an overall grade of 50.9.
Forbes was drafted under former head coach Ron Rivera and former general manager Martin Mayhew. The 2024 Draft will be the first since the change of command, with the sale of the team to a group led by Josh Harris who also brought on new General Manager Adam Peters.
The Commanders have the second overall pick in the NFL draft. Prognosticators are predicting that the Commanders will use their pick to draft a quarterback this season.
