MLB All-Star Game: DC guide to events, traffic and fan fest

WASHINGTON - Get ready baseball fans, the MLB All-Star Game is taking over The District.

The five-day event starts Thursday. It includes All-Star Fan Fests at the Walter Washington Convention Center, All-Star events at the Nationals Park complex and the 2018 MLB All-Star Color Run 5K.

Before thousands of people swarm the area, D.C. officials gave an update Tuesday on security and road closures.

“It’s a big summer for sports fans in Washington, DC. As always, throughout the All-Star Week festivities, our goal is to ensure the safety of residents and visitors,” said Mayor Bowser. “From a successful Stanley Cup Final and victory parade to the recent opening of Audi Field to the 89th MLB All Star Game, this summer is all about demonstrating the passion and excitement that makes Washington, DC the sports capital. Let’s stay safe, have fun, and play ball!”

Road Closures:

Sports Capital Week activities conclude Tuesday, July 17. Please carefully review road closures as some closures are extended to Wednesday, July 18 to accommodate event tear down and clean up. A collaborative effort between DC agencies, and local and federal partners, the following roads will be closed and off-limits to vehicles:

Closed approximately from 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 8 – Wednesday, July 18, until 12:00 p.m.:

  • L Street, NW from 7th Street, NW to 9th Street, NW
  • The following Emergency No Parking will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 12 – Wednesday, July 18, until 12:00 p.m.:
  • 7th Street, NW from Mt. Vernon Place, NW to N Street, NW
  • 9th Street, NW from Mt. Vernon Place, NW to N Street, NW

Closed approximately from 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 – Wednesday, July 18, until 6:00 am:

  • First Street, SE from M Street, SE to Potomac Avenue, SE – Southbound Traffic Only
  • Potomac Avenue, SE from First Street, SE to South Capitol Street, SE – Westbound Traffic Only
  • Van Street, SE from M Street, SE to N Street, SE
  • Half Street, SE from M Street, SE to N Street, SE
  • N Street, SE from South Capitol Street, SE to New Jersey Avenue, SE
  • N Place, SE from First Street, SE to the DC Water Facility Entrance Gate

Local residents with issued DDOT placards, MLB All-Star attendee with parking garage passes, MLB All-Star official vehicles, and verifiable business deliveries will be permitted to enter the complex at

First and M Streets, SE only.

2018 MLB All-Star Color Run 5K

The following roads will be closed during the below listed times on Saturday, July 14:

  • First Street from M Street to N Street, SW (3:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
  • First Street from N Street to Potomac Ave, SW (3:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
  • South Capitol Street (Fredrick Douglas Memorial Bridge) (Northwest lanes only)
  • Anacostia Drive South Capitol Street onramp to Good Hope Road SE (6:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
  • Good Hope Road (Anacostia Drive to Running Path) (6:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.)
  • 11th Street Bridge (South bound lanes) (7:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.)

Preparations for the All-Star celebrations will include street closures and modified schedules for WMATA bus and rail transportation. For more information on local government operations during All-Star week, visit sportscapital.dc.gov.

Safety:

Ensuring effective communication across the District, the Bowser Administration will activate HSEMA’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Joint Information Center (JIC) on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. in support of MLB planned activities and events. Residents and visitors will be able to receive important and emergency information from HSEMA by texting “DCSports” to 888-777. Anyone experiencing an emergency should call 911, and residents seeking non-emergency city services should continue to call 311.
