Bride turns her wedding into a Caps watch party

She did what any other true fan would do--even though her husband is a Penguins fan.

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - "Happy wife, happy life!”

A Maryland bride put that old saying to the test last weekend when her beloved Capitals played Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on her wedding day.

They planned the special day for more than a year.

"Well we planned this whole wedding and I've been a diehard Caps fan my whole life. And then all of a sudden, they beat the Penguins, and then they beat the Lightning, and Game 3 was planned for the night of our wedding,” said Samantha Laraia.

So, she did what any other true fan would do.

“Caps, Caps, Caps,” shouted the crowd at her wedding reception. Laraia streamed the game at her wedding. Caps fans wore their jerseys on top of their fancy dresses and tuxes.

Laraia's tweet showing the red and white affair received hundreds of likes online.

"Most epic wedding party ever,” she said.

Photos from the special day show a big group of fans watching and cheering on the Capitals. But there's one person important person missing... the groom.

Michael Zapalowicz is a Penguins fan.

"I think I was the only Penguins fan there,” Zapalowicz laughed. “I think at one point, I was told to get out of the room!"

Laraia's parents told WUSA9 they paid about $30,000 for the wedding, so Mike may not have had a choice.

"We've embraced Mike even though he's a Penguins fan,” the in-laws Robin and Joseph Laraia joked. Everyone came together and on one of their most memorable nights, the Penguins fan cheered on his favorite Caps fan.

"I was happy for her because it has always been the Penguins and the Caps, and the Penguins end up on top,” said Zapalowicz. “But this year, it didn't go that way and it was her turn to see what it all felt like."

"Music was great, food was great, but having that was awesome!” said Robin Laraia.

It was an "I do" in #ALLCAPS.

The couple also included a Maryland theme in their flowers, the groom’s tie and other items. The bride definitely added come Caps flavor The special drink: Wilson’s Punch, named after Capitals Forward, Tom Wilson.

The bride and groom are going on a honeymoon later this month. The groom told us it will not be a Caps themed event.
