Police: Teens turn themselves in for shooting, killing man in Virginia

On Wednesday, police say two teenagers walked into an Arlington County Police station and turned themselves in for the deadly shooting.

FRANCONIA, Va. — Two teens are in custody for a shooting that left a man dead.

On Wednesday, Fairfax County Police say the two teenagers walked into an Arlington County Police station and turned themselves in for the deadly shooting in Franconia.

On December 13, around 2 p.m., officers were called to Harbor Court Drive for reports of a shooting. Officers searched the area, but found no victims or suspects.

A witness told police they saw someone running with a gun in their hand, and that they left the scene in a black Dodge Charger.

About 30 minutes later, police say they were notified by Prince William County Police, that a man had been dropped off by someone in a black Dodge charger at a local hospital, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Bryant Anthony Gillis.

Detectives investigating the shooting determined the person driving the black Dodge Charger was a friend of Gillis and was with him at the time of the shooting.

Fairfax County Police Captain Jane Russell told WUSA9 the suspects are 15 and 16 years old.

"It's definitely concerning. I mean, they're 15 and 16 years old. They're kids. It's really concerning that you would see such a serious and violent crime being committed by children that age," said Captain Russell.

One teen was charged with Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. The second teen was charged with Principal in the Second Degree. Both are currently being held at a Juvenile Detention Center.

Investigators credited the community with helping them track down the two teens.

"One of the big keys for us was community members assisting us and providing their video doorbell footage. We were able to track the movements both when they arrived and left the scene so that was a huge help to us," said Captain Russell.

This case is still under active investigation as detectives work to determine what led up to the shooting.
