VIRGINIA, USA — The Virginia Department of Health’s Office has released a list of the 15 most popular baby names of 2023.
The number one baby name for boys last year in the Commonwealth was Liam. Charlotte was the most popular for girls.
“It’s always fun to see what the most popular baby names will be in Virginia,” said Seth Austin, state registrar and director of VDH’s Office of Vital Records.
Most popular boy names in 2023:

- Benjamin

Most popular girl names in 2023:
- Emma
- Oliva
- Sophia
- Amelia

- Isabella

The Office of Vital Records also took data from the largest ethnic groups in the state to determine the most popular baby names among: Hispanic, Black, Asian, and White groups.
In Hispanic groups, Liam and Mia were top of the list, followed by:

- Thiago
- Lucas
- Camilla
- Genisis
- Isabella
- Sofia
In Black groups, Noah and Ava remained the most popular names from 2022, followed by:
- Amir
- Josiah
- Elijah
- Legend
- Naomi
- Nova
- Serenity
- Autumn
In Asian groups, Noah and Olivia were the most popular names, followed by:
- Lucas
- Muhammad
- Ethan
- Alexander
- Ava
- Sophia
- Sophie
- Charlotte
Among White groups, James and Charlotte were the number one most used names, followed by:

- Oliver
- Henry
- Liam
- Olivia
