MANASSAS, Va. — Police are asking for the public's help finding a masked gunman who walked into a hotel room and shot a man on New Year's Day.
According to the Prince William County Police Department, the shooting happened at the Days Inn on New Market Court in Manassas.
Investigators claim a masked man walked into a room at the hotel where people had gathered inside. The masked man then took out a gun and pointed it toward a 27-year-old man. The man tried to grab the gun and the two fought before the gun fired, hitting the man.
Officers arrived and helped the man who had been shot, who was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
By the time police arrived, the gunman and witnesses had run from the hotel. No other injuries were reported.
Police do not believe the shooting to be a random attack and continue searching for the masked gunman. Anyone with information may contact detectives at 703-792-7000.
