VIENNA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man riding a motorcycle is dead after a crash involving several vehicles on Leesburg Pike Tuesday afternoon, Fairfax County police said.

The crash happened on Leesburg Pike near the intersection of Towlston Road around 4 p.m., authorities said.

An 81-year-old woman from Potomac Falls was going west on Leesburg Pike, driving up to the intersection of Towlston Road. The light at the intersection for westbound Route 7 was red at the time. During the same time a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by 55-year-old Joseph Thomas Timpane of Springfield was going south on Towlston Road, approaching the intersection of Route 7 on a green light. When Timpane got to the intersection the Chevrolet did not stop for the red light and hit the motorcycle.

Timpane was thrown off the motorcycle and hit a 2012 Nissan Altima that was stopped in the left turn lane of eastbound Route 7. Police said the Chevrolet the hit the Nissan and traveled across the eastbound lanes of Leesburg Pike, hitting a 2009 Honda Pilot.

Timpane was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed and alcohol do not seem to be factors in the crash. Charges are pending against the driver of the Chevrolet.
