Rabid cat found near an elementary school in Frederick, Maryland

Frederick County Animal Control collected a stray cat after receiving reports of its unusual and aggressive behavior.

FREDERICK, Md. — On Tuesday, Frederick County Animal Control collected a stray cat after receiving reports of its unusual and aggressive behavior. The cat was picked up near Butterfly Ridge Elementary School.

The Frederick County Health Department was notified on Thursday that the cat tested positive for rabies. The cat is described as a young adult female with distinct light silvery and cream coloring.

The FCHD is asking anyone who may have come in contact with this cat between February 6 and February 20, to consult their health care provider and notify the FCHD’s Community Health Services Office at 301-600-3342.

It is now the second cat to test positive for rabies in Frederick County this year. The county had 32 animals test positive for rabies in 2023.
