COLESVILLE, Md. — Right place at the right time.

A police officer rescued two people from a burning house early Tuesday morning after officials say he saw the flames while he was getting into his car in Colesville, Md.

Around 6 a.m., fire officials say a police officer spotted flames while he was getting into his car at a nearby fire house. The officer reported the fire before rushing to the house on Stanley Lane.

Arriving before firefighters, the police officer immediately jumped into action, went inside and rescued two people from the burning house. An off-duty firefighter also arrived on the scene to help assist the officer.

"I tried the front door knob and it was locked, so I kicked the front door in," the Colesville police officer said.

Firefighters were able to knock out the fire and no injuries were reported.
