Parents search for answers in Ashanti Billie murder case

Ashanti Billie

Ashanti Billie, a Maryland teenager, had just started culinary school in Hampton Roads when she vanished. Her body was found more than 380 miles away, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Now, 31 days later, the FBI is still looking for her killer, and her parents are searching for answers. They are speaking out, sharing their pain and their mission to carry on their daughter's name.

Losing their daughter has been unimaginable for Brandy and Meltony Billie.

"I still feel numb. I feel like it's a nightmare and I just keep going to sleep and waking up to the same nightmare over and over again," said Ashanti's mother.

Billie, just 19-years old, was abducted from a military base in Norfolk. How that was able to happen is still unclear to her parents. They also say they have no idea who would want to hurt their daughter.

"We have to bring the person or persons to justice, so this doesn't happen to anyone else. We also still need to face the fact she was abducted from a military installation, somewhere we thought would be a safe location," said Brandy Billie.

Billie's father says he often cries when he thinks about his daughter.

"Now I don't have the opportunity to walk her down the aisle as a father on her wedding day. Hugs are lessened because I don't get the chance to hug grandkids. There's a lot of subtraction in my life because of this," said Meltony Billie.

As the family tries to cope with the loss of their beautiful daughter, they are on a mission to carry on their daughter's name. They are starting the 'Ashanti Billie Foundation' to provide services to families of other missing people. They are also starting a scholarship in their daughter's name for anyone interested in attending culinary school, where she was enrolled in Virginia Beach.

Meanwhile, the FBI is still searching for whoever is responsible for her death. There is a $20,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest.
